Compassion in action
Champagnat House (burgundy) is named in honour of St Marcellin Champagnat, who was the founder of the Marist Brothers. St Marcellin was a charismatic man who personified ‘compassion in action’, a trait he learnt from his parents. He saw a need for Christian education in rural areas and dedicated himself to bringing this dream to life. Champagnat inspires us to live the values of simplicity and hard work in our College.

The Marist symbol shows our connection to the Marist Order in the wider world.

The nails and wooden hammer are the tools with which Marcellin Champagnat was associated, they affirm our links to the practical man who used his own hands to build his first schools. The simplicity and ordinariness of his life and hard work is reflected in these physical symbols.

The open book signifies the strong connection to education which Champagnat created and represents our solidarity with all Marist schools and communities globally.

Our motto, Compassion in action, stems from our view of Marcellin’s strong Christian faith, passion and love of God. It was this passion that drove his actions throughout his life; as members of Champagnat House, we feel this focus will underpin our compassion and desire to act for the good of others.
