Year 7 Music

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” (Plato)

Extensive research shows that learning a musical instrument and playing in an ensemble can help children to develop:

  • reasoning ability
  • problem-solving skills
  • Maths and language performance
  • memory capacity
  • self-confidence and self-discipline
  • social and teamwork skills

In 2016, every Year 7 student at Catholic College Bendigo will begin their studies in music with an intensive practical program as part of the classroom music curriculum.

Every student will start their musical journey with small-group brass, woodwind or percussion lessons each week, which will be complemented by the parallel classroom program.

Students will receive instrumental tuition from specialist instrumental music teachers, and will participate in a class concert band that rehearses each week. The College will provide students with an instrument and band method book to use during the program.

This intensive classroom and hands-on introduction to music will provide students with the skills and confidence to continue on a rewarding path to develop their musical ability to the highest level.
