Year 7 - 9 Careers Days

The Careers Team endeavours to provide all students with a Career Development program that allows them to discover their potential, explore their career interests and link their learning to future success in life. Research that suggests that career development needs of senior students are better met when career education is addressed in middle school years. In keeping with this, every year we run three very successful Year 7, 8 and 9 Careers Days at La Valla in October and November.

The Year 7 Day has a theme of “I Discover Careers”. This day commences with a whole year level assembly where students gain excellent career development advice and information from guest speakers. Following this, students spend the remainder of the day involved in activities aimed at starting the development of their Career ePortfolio.

The Year 8 program on the following day has the theme “I Explore Careers” and also comprises of guest speakers and Career ePortfolio learning activities that continued on from last year’s theme.

The Year 9 program has the focus on “Work Education”. The days are held during exam week and comprise of activities on careers and education about the workforce. Students work on career awareness activities, learning about the Year 10 Work Experience Program, complete their two compulsory ‘safe@work’ modules and also work and develop their resume and cover letters.
