WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS AND STRUCTURED WORK PLACE LEARNING PLACEMENTS |
![]()
Victorian secondary students are involved in work placements that fall into two major categories:
Work experience is the short term placement of secondary school students with “host” employers, to provide insights into the industry and the work place in which they are located. Students are placed with employers primarily to observe and learn – not to undertake activities which require extensive training or experience.
Structured Workplace Learning involves students undertaking structured on the job training during which they are expected to master a designated set of skills and competencies related to courses accredited by the Victorian Qualifications Authority.
In Year 10, at CCB, Futures 10 and VET students who need workplace experience related to their VET program undertake Structured Workplace Learning.
All other Year 10 students are scheduled for a Work Experience placement.

In Years 11 & 12, VCAL students and VET students who need workplace experience related to their VET program complete Structured Workplace Learning.
All other Year 11 & 12 students may request Work Experience.
In Years 11 & 12, structured workplace learning is usually undertaken during the same weeks as those scheduled for Yr 10 students, unless other arrangements (such as one day a week placements) are approved.
In Years 11 & 12, work experience is usually undertaken during school holidays or in weeks where there are student-free days, unless a House Leader approves other term dates.
All requests and arrangements for Work Experience placements must be made through the Coolock Careers Office.
All requests and arrangements for Structured Workplace Learning must be made through the Coolock VET/VCAL Office (UG4).
Further information about Year 10 Work Experience can be found at the CCB Moodle site.
