ADVICE FOR WORKERS

WorkChoices

Under WorkChoices, minimum wages for employees covered by the federal system are no longer included in awards. They are now protected in Australian Pay and Classification Scales, which form part of the Australian Fair Pay and Conditions Standard.Information about how the new pay scales apply to people in the federal system is provided in pay scale summaries. They provide rates of pay and other relevant information. You should read pay scales in conjunction with the relevant award as certain clauses and provisions in the award may also apply to you. At this stage only some of the 3300 awards have summaries available. Further summaries will be added progressively. Note that some of the recently published summaries have been updated. To find the pay scale summary that applies to you, you need to know the title of the award you are covered by. If you know what this is you can browse the summaries. If you are not sure, call the WorkChoices Infoline on 1300 363 264.
