Arts Building Opening 2006
On Thursday 6 April 2006, more than 140 past students of St Mary's College, many of them boarders, were welcomed back to witness the opening of the newly refurbished Arts Floor and life in the building, which was the former home of the boarders. The ceremony took place in the presence of Bishop Joe Grech, Senator Michael Ronaldson, Sisters of Mercy, past principals and guests associated with the building process. A highlight of the ceremony was a performance by the Coolock Choir, lead by Mrs Catherine Moore, followed by an inspection of the Art Rooms.
Following afternoon tea in the hall, guests moved into the newly renovated Mercy Chapel for a short Blessing ceremony. Once again they were treated to a performance by the choir, but this time with the added benefit of the beautiful acoustics of the Chapel.
After leaving the Chapel, current CCB students were on hand to conduct tours of the College, including the Mercy Building (formerly the Convent) and Coolock House. There was also a wonderful display of photos and memorabilia.
Those who took part in the tours enjoyed themselves immensely and were impressed with the conduct and attitude of the students who happily showed them around.
Later that night a Reunion Dinner was held for past students of St Mary's College. It was very well attended and included students from the 1930's through to those who experienced the changeover to Catholic College.
The informal evening was a great opportunity to continue conversations begun earlier in the day and also allowed people who had been unable to attend earlier to catch up with friends.
